Here's a suggestion for a fun, family-oriented educational weekend getaway with plenty of activities that will satisfy a wide variety of interests. Plan a journey to the 4th annual Appalachian Mountain Artisans Fest being held in Winchester, Ohio on Friday, October 11, Saturday, October 12 and Sunday, October 13.
Appalachian Mountain Artisans Fest Taking place on the grounds of the Hilltop Designs/ GoodSeed Nursery & Garden Center, the Appalachian Mountain Artisans Festival is southern Ohio's fastest growing festival. The Fest will showcase the artistic talents of the local Appalachian community featuring some of the state's finest artisans (more than 100 of them) and their handcrafted items.
The Fest will also have educational demonstrations from the Grassy Run Historical Village involving blacksmithing, spinning and wheat weaving in addition to demos from Grandpa's Pottery and Joy of Gourds. Be sure to check out the Cake Decorating Class.
Activities for the whole family include a petting zoo, putt putt golf, a toy tractor display, horse and carriage rides and a 16 foot teepee to explore.
Live entertainment will be provided by the Cash Only bluegrass band, Jay and Chris Fetters, the Fancy Free Cloggers and award-winning singer-songwriter Steve Free.
A charity auction will benefit the Parkinson's Wellness Center and the Alzheimer's Association.
Just some of the tasty food available for purchase will be pork tenderloin, BBQ, sweet potatoes, roasted corn-on-the-cob, walking tacos and cornbread in addition to huge donuts, ice cream and Appalachian Mountain Cider slushies.
Hours for the Appalachian Mountain Artisans Fest are 10 a.m. - 6 p.m on Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free.
