The almost-overnight Internet sensation known as Pinterest has gone from simple "virtual vision board" web-tool for collecting recipes, fashion tips, and party planning to a full-blown digital personality matrix.
Pinterest is a website and moble app in which users create virtual pin boards to "collect" their favorite things from the web or uploaded from their own computers or mobile phones. The digital equivalent of cutting out pictures from a magazine and saving them in a folder or attaching to a cork board.
It's no secret that the majority of Pinterest's users are women and they are doing way more than finding new and interesting favors for their kid's next birthday party. Pinterest die-hards are "pinning" their dreams, their ambitions, their mantras, their fears, their wants, their desires, and so much more. You can find out what kind of body she wants. The kind of men she finds attractive. What she will and will not stand for. What makes her laugh and what makes her cry. Women are finding the ultimate form of self expression through pinning.
Pinterest also has managed to create a community among it's users. Pinners are able to follow each other's boards and individual "pins" can be shared via Facebook, Twitter, or can be embedded on blogs or websites.
