The Animal Rescue Site holding $300,000 Shelter Challenge 2011

The Animal Rescue Site (a partner of Petfinder.com) is holding the $300,000 Shelter Challenge of 2011. They have gathered up eligible Petfinder.com animal rescue organizations to receive special grants. Winners are selected based on fan votes over on their website.

The Animal Rescue Site will grant up to $300,000 to animal welfare groups during four voting periods. The first voting period started on January 20, 2011, and will continue until midnight on Sunday, March 20, 2011. Grand prize is $5,000 for the organization with the most votes during the period, along with weekly prizes of $1,000 for the organization that has the most votes each week (total of ten $1,000 prizes). There are also additional prizes for the New Beginnings Story Contest, where pet owners can tell their stories about adopting an animal from their favorite shelter. Visit the New Beginnings Story Contest page to find out more.

Included in the list of U.S. shelters are several from Jefferson County, Colorado, that have been profiled by the Lakewood Pet Examiner: Angel with Paws Cat Adoption and Shelter in Lakewood, the Cat Care Society in Lakewood, Foothills Animal Shelter in Golden, the Evergreen Animal Protective League in Evergreen, and Friends Rescue Animal Network in Elizabeth. All are eligible to receive the weekly and period prizes. There is also a $1,000 prize for the top vote-getting organization in each state plus the District of Columbia, which makes $51,000 in state prizes. Both the Cat Care Society and Foothills Animal Shelter are currently in the Colorado top ten.

The Lakewood Pet Examiner would like to encourage everyone to vote for their favorite animal shelter. There are 235 shelters from the state of Colorado listed on the Animal Rescue Site. Find one close to your home and vote daily. Limit is one vote per day per person. Good luck!
