The Andromedolls win yet again over the Church of Sk8in

This season, I am coaching Emerald City home team Andromedolls, so I will rarely have the opportunity to write recaps of Emerald City's bouts. Fortunately, Chas Horner has stepped up to take over the pen. I am working with him to help him adapt his writing talent to roller derby. Enjoy this recap from Chas.

The second match-up Saturday night featured a much-anticipated rematch of last season's league championship bout. The Andromedolls came to the Lane Events Center with plans to continue their five-year reign of terror, which has repeatedly spooned the Church of Sk8in into the jaws of defeat.

Lead changes were so frequent during the first half that the fans could not have needed more than the edge of their seats. At no time was either team more than a few points ahead of the other. The virtual tie at halftime of 64 to 62, though favoring the Andromedolls, gave Church fans good reason to savor the prospect of vengeance close at hand.

Sure enough, the scores remained tight early in the second half. But, as Church of Sk8in allowed the gap to widen, the Andromedolls felt the familiar warmth of probable victory as they entered the last eight minutes with a 36-point lead.

A late push by Church of Sk8in, aided by a 15-0 jam by Red Ruckus, again threatened the Andromedolls dominance. But, as the final jams were played, the packed house was treated to a clear victory for last year's champions. The Andromedolls went home with a 160 to 122 win, and Church of Sk8in again sniffed, but did not quite taste, much-desired victory.

The Andromedolls’ Scariel led all scorers with 74 points. Surly Q added 45 for the Dolls. Psychotic Rage was the top jammer for Church with 31.

Both teams’ next bouts are April 20th. Church will play the Flat Track Furies, and the Andromedolls will take on Lava City.

The next Emerald City Roller Girls bout hits on March 16 with a rare home bout for the Emerald City all-star travel team Skatesaphrenics versus Portland’s Heartless Heathers and a rare coed match-up featuring the Lane County Concussion men's roller derby.
