One Word -- Yummy!

I was introduced to this mom in pop by a native of Matthews, NC, Mr. Harvey Boyd. It is his and was one of his mom’s favorite places to go for local southern cuisine. The restaurant is located in an old railroad town that grew up out of the success of the railroad system in nearby Charlotte, NC. In fact, the town is named after the Matthews family who were instrumental in bringing the railroad to the small town of Matthews. In fact, Mr. Boyd’s father retired from the railroad and his pension served his widow (Viola) well until her passing in September of 2009 at the age of 99 years old.
Mr. Boyd accompanied me to my mystery shopping trip to The Americana Restaurant in June of 2009. I found the staff very friendly and cordial and the restroom clean. The interior of the restaurant is a bit dated but perfect for that down home country feel of eating at the neighbors house. The best part of my experience was that it took less than five minutes for my take out order to be produced.
I ordered the chopped steak with rice dinner which came with collard greens, mashed potatoes, and cornbread. The total bill came to $7.52 with tax. The chopped steak was tender and tasty, the greens were good but a little bland, the mashed potatoes creamy and memorable, and the corn bread sweet and delectable just like it is supposed to be in the south. All in all it was a great experience and I look forward to my next stop at The Americana Restaurant in the quaint town of Matthews, NC.
The Americana Restaurant is located at 1628 Matthews-Mint Hill Road (off Highway 74 East), Matthews, NC, 28105. Their phone number is 704-841-0801 and web site is www.theamericanarestaurant.com. Tell them that Trend Magazine Online sent you!
