The ‘American Idol’ judges can happily disagree

The thirteenth season of “American Idol” is officially underway with three people sitting behind the judges table this time around. Keith Urban made his return from last season and previous judge Jennifer Lopez is back along with Harry Connick, Jr. who joins the show for the first time. Parade reported on Jan. 18, 2014 how the new judging panel was getting along.

Parade spoke to Connick, Jr. about working with his fellow judges asking “What’s your take on your fellow judges, Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez?” Connick, Jr. responded by saying “We can disagree about things and it’s never ugly.”

Connick, Jr. also discussed the previous season’s judging panel that included Urban, Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey saying “Quite frankly, I think the chemistry may have been a little bit off. I’m a big fan of everybody who was on that panel, but it’s like being with someone in a relationship—why do they click with you? It’s hard to put a finger on it.”

Urban echoed the feelings about the panel of judges getting along when he spoke earlier about working with the new team of judges saying “Before the cameras started rolling, I knew we had the chemistry and the synergy that I hoped we could get behind the desk” adding “It’s really enjoyable to go to work.”

Urban discussed his relationship with Connick, Jr. saying “He has such a wonderfully twisted view of things. I’m right in sync with that for some weird reason as well” continuing “We’re having a blast. He feels like my long-lost brother. He really does.”

“American Idol” is back on your television screen on Jan. 22, 2014 with Detroit auditions and Jan. 23, 2014 where the audition rounds continue from Atlanta. The “Hollywood or Home” round happens on Feb. 5, 2014 with the three night special “Rush Week” starting up on February 18, 2014 through Feb. 20, 2014. The top 13 finalists begin competing live on Feb. 26, 2014.
