The American Idol Experience is located in the Echo Lake section of Disney's Hollywood Studios. It is a live attraction based on the show of the same name. There are two different ways to participate in the show; as a contestant or as a member of the audience.
Auditions for contestants are held throughout the day at the back of the theater in Commissary Lane. All participants are Walt Disney World guests. They must be 14 or older in order to audition. There is no cap on the age. Three guests are picked for each show. The winner of each will go head to head in the finale. There are usually five shows a day.
The show itself is quite simple. Once the audience is seated someone will come out to warm them up and explain the voting process. From there a video of Ryan Seacrest introduces the show. There is a host and three judges. The contestants are introduced and each will perform a short song. The judges will then give advice. After all of the performances the audience will vote. If it is the final show of the night the winner will receive the "Dream Ticket", which allows the holder to go to the front of the line at an actual American Idol audition.
The show combines live entertainment with videos of past American Idol contestants. Several people who have won at Disney's Hollywood Studios have gone on to be finalists on the actual show, including Season Nine's Aaron Kelly and Season Eleven's Hollie Cavanagh and Skylar Laine.
