This summer Marvel Entertainment and Columbia Pictures will reboot the Spider-Man movie franchise with The Amazing Spider-Man. With the cancelation of Spider-Man 4, there was an opening to give audiences "the untold story" of Spider-Man as the movie poster proclaims.
Though it seems rather soon to retell a story audiences saw back in 2002 with Tobey Maguire. Then again, these comic-book/super hero movies come and go in cycles. Besides, The Amazing Spider-Man has something different, it will be released in 3D and there's a new cast that is clearly excited to being doing the films. Particularly Andrew Garfield, who plays Peter Parker, lets all his nerdy, childhood fantasies come out in his promotion of the film. At 2011's Comic Con, Garfield surprised audiences by dressing as Spidey and reading an endearing speech to fans about how he'd always wanted to come there as a fan. Watch the video here.
Emma Stone went blond to play Peter Parker's love interest, Gwen Stacy. Stacy works at Oscorp, where Parker gets the famous spider bite. Rhys Ifans is Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard, the lead scientist at Oscorp, yet as with most super intelligent scientists in film, his desire to invent transforms into a desire to slaughter humankind. Dennis Leary plays strict New York City Police Captain George Stacy, Gwen Stacy's father. Martin Sheen and Sally Field play Parker's uncle and aunt.
The trailer looks like the film will focus on Parker's development through high school as he discovers his father's ominous briefcase which leads him to search for his father's secret and find his true identity as Spider-Man. The section at the end of the trailer that utilizes point of view effects, even without 3D, looks amazingly realistic.
Also check out the trailer on the film's website which reveals more action-packed scenes and the dynamics between Spider-Man, Gwen Stacy, and Dr. Connors.
See The Amazing Spider-Man on July 3, 2012.
