According to ComingSoon.net on Dec. 26, the viral website for "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" gave a recent update about Russian mob activity within the city. The site seems to tease of what already exists in Marvel comic lore as a group of villains known as The Enforcers. These comic characters were originally created by Stan Lee and co-plotter Steve Ditko.
Frederick Foswell had written the The Daily Bugle blog post on the Tumblr viral site and speaks of the recent mob activity occurring in the five boroughs. The author shares the same name of the alter ego of The Big Man who leads The Enforcers mob group.
"With reports of Russian mob activity at an all-time high in the city, many have wondered who these (mostly) men are and what they are trying to accomplish. New Yorkers are no strangers to organized crime, but this time it seems different.
Gregarious, boastful men fill the Brighton beach night scene — every single one of them with a spectacular guttural baritone voice that makes one wonder if there are any gangster tenors.
Mob activity is the suspected cause of a spike in crime across all five boroughs. Not content with hijacking retails goods, sports betting, or drugs, more crime families have become involved in high-tech crimes such as the theft of microchips, processors, experimental metal alloys, and advanced weaponry.
Fancy Dan Brito said during his arraignment for the recent Brighton Beach shootout, “Everything has a price. Including the head of so-called superheroes".
There's no information on whether or not The Enforcers will be making their appearance in the Marc Webb film, but it looks like the reference to spike in crime associated to mob activity as mentioned in the Tumblr article could relate to Paul Giamatti who will be appearing in the movie opposing Spider-Man.
