'The Amazing Spider-Man 2': Paul Giamatti in talks for Rhino (Video)

It looks like Spider-Man will have more than one villain to battle in the upcoming superhero film The Amazing Spider-Man 2. According to The Hollywood Reporter on Monday, Jan. 28, Paul Giamatti is in talks to play The Rhino. The news comes several months after Jamie Foxx signed on to the film in the villainous role of Electro.

Giamatti will portray Aleksei Mikhailovich Sytsevich, a man who has a skin graft which is made up of a nearly indestructible element. The character's rough exterior is the inspiration for his alter ego, The Rhino. Giamatti has expressed being a fan of the character growing up after reading the comics.

The action sequel is scheduled to open in theaters on May 2, 2014 and will be directed by Marc Webb, who helmed the original film as well. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone was returning to the roles of Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy. Actress Shailene Woodley has also joined the project as Mary Jane Watson and newcomer Dane DeHaan will step into the role of Harry Osborne.

Giamatti's most recent film roles include Cosmopolis, John Dies at the End, and Rock of Ages. He gained notoriety playing opposite "Malcolm in the Middle" star Frankie Muniz and Amanda Bynes in Big Fat Liar. Production on the sequel is expected to begin next month.
