'The Amazing Spider-Man 2': Dane DeHaan talks weight gain for role

The highly anticipated superhero film "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" has begun production in New York City, and actor Dane DeHaan is still preparing. Comingsoon.net reported on Monday, Feb. 25 that DeHaan talked about gaining weight for the role of Harry Osborn in an interview with The New York Times.

DeHaan scored the role of Peter Parker's best friend in the sequel after appearing in the science fiction thriller "Chronicle" in 2012. The actor mentions having to bulk up quite a bit for the role, going from his usual thin frame to a much more muscular one. DeHaan's diet includes consuming 3,000 calories a day by eating about every two hours. The intense schedule has already lead the actor to weigh his heaviest to date. DeHaan said, "I've already gained seven pounds in six weeks."

Between eating plenty of vegetables and proteins and working out at least six days a week, DeHaan is putting on a fair amount of muscle. The actor will be able to showcase all the hard work when he begins filming in the next few weeks.

Directed by Marc Webb, "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" is scheduled to release in theaters next summer on May 2, 2014. The superhero sequel will bring back actors Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Sally Field. Some newcomers to the franchise include Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley, and Paul Giamatti.
