According to on Jan. 4, in Marc Webb's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2", it appears that the role of the damsel in distress is now reversed. Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker's main squeeze, played by actress Emma Stone, iterates how her intellect has contributed a life saving role to the main hero in the film. Apparently, Stone claims her character has saved his life more so than hers.

"I can think of one important instance. She saves him more than he saves her. She’s incredibly helpful to Spider-Man… He’s the muscle, she’s the brains. I don’t get to do too many crazy stunts. She gets herself in the middle of stuff, that’s for sure! I do get webbed to a car. There’s s**t like that".

In the original comic book story line, Peter Parker inadvertently snaps Gwen Stacy's neck in a rescue attempt when the Green Goblin threw her off a building. The implication made by Stone may be interpreted as her character not being saved by Spider-Man. Since it was mentioned by Stone that he does save her in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2", though not as many times, alludes to the the likelihood of the moving moving in a different direction than the comic book.

Some may have recalled a similar role reversal as the Extremis infected Pepper Potts saved Tony Stark's life in "Iron Man 3".

"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" opens in theaters on May 2.
