Father/son team Gary and Matt Tomljenovich were last to the pit stop but not out of "The Amazing Race" on the season 15 week seven episode, Nov. 8, 2009.
The pit stop for this leg of the race revisited one of the most daunting challenges in "The Amazing Race" history - finding a needle in a haystack. One person from each team was asked to unroll hay bails until they found a clue. Unfortunately, they had no idea where the clue was among the 136 hay bails. Before the challenge begin, viewers were reminded that the team that was eliminated during this challenge previously spent 10 hours unrolling 100 hay bails without finding a clue.
Flight Time and Big Easy were the first to find the clue, therefore the first team at the pit stop. Their reward was a luxury vacation.
Riding the rides and blowing stuff up
On This is the Worst Thing I've Ever Done in My Life (Sweden), the five remaining teams traveled to Stockholm, Sweden. Their first stop: a huge amusement part for their first clue. Unfortunately for some pairs, the teams were split on two flights to Sweden. The earliest flight carried Meghan and Cheyne, Flight Time and Big Easy and Sam and Dan. The later flight carried Gary and Matt and Brian and Ericka.
The first clue told one person from each team to ride a ride at the amusement park, a ride that involved a 24-story drop. The object was to find an arrow pointing to their next clue location while at the top. The second clue was also a game - Roaming Gnome Ring Toss. The teams had to land their ring on a gnome hat that had a gnome underneath of it. They then had to keep their gnome with them until the pit stop.
The detour options tonight were building a sand barrier to protect themselves from a huge explosion they had to set off to find their next clue or decode a message written in the ancient Viking alphabet. Meghan and Cheyne, Flight Time and Big Easy and Sam and Dan were almost to their detour before Gary and Matt and Brian and Ericka even reached the amusement park. Every team chose the explosion task.
