“The Amazing Race” returns to CBS tonight with an action-packed 90-minute premiere of season 17. As in seasons past, teams of two people will race across the globe; face numerous obstacles, speed bumps and pit stops, all in hopes of being the first to arrive at the final pit stop and winning the $1 million prize.
Season 17 of "The Amazing Race" spans 32,000 miles while racing across four continents, with first-time visits to Ghana and Bangladesh. Plus, for the first time in the show’s very successful history, teams will cross the Arctic Circle. Season 17 starts at the Eastern Point Yacht Club in Gloucester, MA, making it the first season since “The Amazing Race All-Stars" to start in a city other than Los Angeles. According to CBS, the team that finishes first in the premiere earns a surprise, game changing advantage.
The eleven teams competing in season 17 of “The Amazing Race" include:
- Nick and Vicki: 26-year-olds from Henderson, Nevada who are currently dating. Nick is a bartender and Vicki is a hairstylist.
- Brooke and Claire: Brook is a 27-year-old from San Diego. Her 30-year-old best friend, Claire is from Reno, Nevada. Both currently list their occupations as hosts for the Home Shopping Network.
- Michael and Kevin: This Asian father son/team is from Sugar Land, Texas. Dad Michael is 58 years old and is a software consultant. His 20-year-old son is a student and Internet entertainer.
- Ron and Tony: Ron is a 45-year-old from Los Angeles and his best friend is Tony, a 42-year-old from Tucson. Both work in the entertainment industry and are passionate about promoting equal rights for all.
- Chad and Stephanie: Chad is a 26-year-old Operations Manager and his new girlfriend is 23 and lists hairstylist as her occupation. Both come from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
- Nat and Kat: Kat is a 35-year-old doctor from Santa Monica and her friend, Nat is a 31-year-old doctor from Scottsdale.
- Connor and Jonathan: These 22-year-old friends are best friends and students at Princeton University. They are also both a cappella singers.
- Gary and Mallory: This father/daughter team hails from Kentucky, Dad Gary is a 53-year-old entrepreneur and his 24-year-old daughter is a beauty queen who was crowned Miss Kentucky in 2009.
- Andie and Jenna: 21-year-old Jenna recently reunited with her 43-year-old birth mom, Jenna. Andie is a stay-at-home mother from Atlanta and her daughter is a 21-year-old student from Athens, Georgia.
- Jill and Thomas: Jill is 27 and Thomas is 30. This boyfriend/girlfriend team comes from Marina Del Rey, California. Jill is a hairstylist and Thomas is an ad sales director.
- Katie and Rachel: These young blondes hail from New Jersey and they’re friends and professional beach volleyball partners. Katie is 23 and Rachel is 24.
Season 17 of “The Amazing Race” premieres tonight with a 90-minute kick-off that airs at 8:30/7:30c on CBS. After the premiere, “The Amazing Race” will continue with one-hour episodes that air at 8/7c on Sundays. “The Amazing Race” premiered in 2001 and has won an amazing eight Emmy® Awards. Host Phil Keoghan has won numerous Emmys and has been the show's point person since its inception.
