'The Amazing Race:' Maria and Tiffany channel Kenny Rogers and ‘know when to fold 'em’
The bell did not ring on the latest episode of “The Amazing Race” with Maria and Tiffany channeling Kenny Rogers famous lyrics from “The Gambler” ‘You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em.’ Maria and Tiffany knew after attempting “The Amazing Race” detour’s ‘Farmers Game’ twice and the ‘Farmers Dance’ twice, they knew when to fold 'em and admited to an exhausted defeat.
“The Amazing Race” began with all of the teams leaving Dubai heading to Amsterdam, with the next flight leaving at 12:00am the six remaining teams had time to talk at the airport and brothers Sam and Dan came out to the other race teams about being homosexual, which everyone seemingly already knew, except for Maria and Tiffany who secretly had crushes on the brothers.
Upon arriving in Amsterdam “The Amazing Race” teams had to find Martinitoren, the highest church tower in the city of Groningen, The Netherlands. One member of the team had to climb the steep stair and count the 62 bells throughout the tower to receive their next clue. Megan and Sam decided to team up and count together as the other teams attempted to count on there own, Sam did decide to pass along the number to Tiffany as they had an alliance for quite some time.
All of the teams completed the task fairly quickly, except for former Miss America Ericka Dunlap who struggled to count the bells accurately, causing her and husband Brian to fall considerably behind. Meanwhile, the other “Amazing Race” teams arrived at Vierhuizen de Marne, where a windmill served as the marker for the detour a choice between two tasks, ‘Farmers Dance’ or ‘Farmers Game,’ while dressed in traditional Dutch attire.
Both tasks having there drawbacks in ‘Farmers Dance’ one team member had to complete a famous carnival game requiring striking a mallet on a peg hard enough to ultimately ring a bell, next they had to learn and perform a traditional Dutch folk dance and upon completing the task had to consume salted herring.
In ‘Farmers Game’ “The Amazing Race” teams had to strip down to their provided underwear and swim across a small river to play a game of ‘golf’ Dutch style, using a handle and a wooden shoe for the club. The teams had to sink three balls with a par eight for each of them, if they went over the allotted strokes they would have to begin again.
Brothers Sam and Dan and dating couple Megan and Cheyne chose ‘Farmers Game’ while Gary and Matt choose ‘Farmers Dance’ they quickly learned the dance, however when Matt found out they would have to eat salted herring to complete the challenge they switched to ‘Farmers Game.’ Ericka and Brian were now at the Martinitoren tower for over two hours leaving fans to believe they would be the next team eliminated.
Maria and Tiffany arrived at the detour and quickly picked ‘Farmers Dance,’ however after attempting to ring the bell over 30 times they decided to switch to ‘Farmers Game’ which proved to be just as challenging as the wind picked up. The Globetrotters were not far behind and chose ‘Farmers Dance’ due to their experience; they rang the bell on the first shot, quickly learned the folk dance and ate the herring.
While Maria and Tiffany decided to once again switch detour tasks and attempted to ring the bell again, Brian and Ericka arrived, but did not read their clue properly and walked to the ‘Farmers Dance’ instead of riding the provided bicycles. Brian and Ericka quickly ran the bell and encouraged each other through the dance, and unexpectedly Ericka ate the herring with no problem. However, they did incur a 30 minute penalty for no riding the bicycles to the detour.
In the end an exhausted Maria and Tiffany switched detour tasks one final time and went back to ‘Farmers Game’ where they knew they could not complete either of the tasks and folded.
“The Amazing Race” team arrival order:
- Sam and Dan (winning a sand buggy)
- Megan and Cheyne
- Flight Time and Big Easy
- Gary and Matt
- Brian and Ericka
