The Amazing Race' 16 recap: Jet and Cord nearly eliminated after forgetting a clue

Jet and Cord were nearly eliminated from "The Amazing Race" season 16 on episode eight after forgetting to grab the clue that led them to the pit stop. Lucky for them, this was not an elimination leg.

They were already pushed toward the back after making a mistake during the detour, but they would've been safe (placing fifth) if they hadn't made the second mistake of forgetting to bring the clue to the pit stop with them to the pit stop. They were forced to go back and get the clue, which gave Brandy and Carol time to move ahead.

Since they were not eliminated, they will have to complete a special challenge during the next leg of the race.

Steve and Allie were team number one. Their reward was $7,000 each and an ocean-side dinner and ocean-side massage while in the Seychelles. They also were rewarded with all the 7-Up they can drink, whatever that means.

Welcome to the Seychelles

This episode, the teams traveled to the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean. Because the Seychelles are such a remote island, all of the teams traveled on the same flight, giving them all an equal opportunity to take spot number one this leg of the race.

The turtle or the ox

Brent and Caite, Steve and Allie and Dan and Jordan got lucky after sitting closest to the front of the plane because as the first teams to the clue they got on the first three helicopters to the island where the next clue was located. The remaining three teams - Michael and Louie, Brandy and Carol and Jet and Cord - would have to wait another hour for the helicopters to return to be taken to the island.

Once on the island, the teams had to decide which detour they would perform. The first detour told the team to lead a gigantic turtle with a banana to another group of bananas, and then grab that group of bananas and bring it in to town. The second detour told the teams to load a cart with coconuts, have the cart attached to an ox by a local, and then take the cart in to town. I really loved Steve's logic for choosing the turtle challenge: The tortoise always beats the hare!

Day 15 brings double elimination on 'Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains,' Villains send Tyson home

Brent and Caite were in the lead at first, but Steve and Allie's turtle hulled butt for his banana, and the team blew right past them. Dan and Jordan weren't far behind Brent and Caite distance wise, but Brent and Caite were way behind in the game without knowing it because they did not have all the coconuts in their cart. When Brent found out, he had a complete meltdown, saying over and over again that he was quitting. They didn't realize one of the coconuts had gone over the side of the cart, so they didn't understand why the man wouldn't give them their clue. Caite was devastated by the mistake, and you could see the pair once again crumbling.

They shouldn't feel too bad about their mistake, though, because they weren't the only team that made the mistake. Jet and Cord and Carol and Brandy also left coconuts behind. Jet and Cord were pretty calm about the incident, but Brandy and Carol sort of lost it. They fought with the man for a little bit and threatened to quit the game before getting on the cart and turning around, blaming each other the whole way back.

Pit stop

The clue for this week's pit stop was found in the middle of the ocean. After receiving the clue for finishing the detour, the teams had to take a boat to a nearby island, swim out in to the middle of the ocean and find a case of submerged bottles. One person from each team then had to untie one of the bottles to retrieve the clue inside. That clue led the teams to their pit stop.

Oh, and of course to make things more fun, the teams had to swim a very far distance to the pit stop and solve a puzzle in order to figure out what the clue to the pit stop was telling them.
