It's been two weeks since a new episode of "The Amazing Race," and for those of you with a memory lapse here's what happened last time.
- Jet & Cord ran around in Cowboy hats
- Michael & Louie turned Brent & Caite into their minions
- Dan & Jordan said the word "bro" 5,000 times.
- Carol & Brandy -- otherwise known by Caite as the "evil lesbians" -- were eliminated.
At the start of this episode, Dan & Jordan head out first and are quickly given their next destination: Shanghai, China. They were then told to head for "The Venice of China" and then wait for a boat. Considering that China is just a little ways away, expect some equalizers! The teams all arrived at the airport together, and Brent & Caite preceded to tell the elaborate story of U-Turning Carol & Brandy almost like it is Shakespeare (well it could be, since it involves betrayal).
Upon arriving in Shanghai, everyone rushed out of the airport together -- which means the fast ones (Jet & Cord) immediately took the lead over the slow (Michael & Louie). This city was absolutely beautiful, a place that most of us would probably never know without seeing this show.
Brent & Caite were the first to arrive at the Roadblock, which involved a "time-honored tradition" of making noodles. The only difference? In the Middle Ages, your reward was getting dinner on the table. On the "Race," you get to meet the world's shortest man!
Meanwhile, Dan & Jordan and Louie & Michael were mired in the terrible world of bad cab drivers. The two didn't speak English, and they also decided for some silly reason to follow each other. The cops finally got someone to show them the way, and the final two teams managed to get on the right path.
At the Roadblock, the cowboys "whooped that pasta" at a far faster tempo than Caite, who looked like she was about ready to turn the world's smallest man into a pasta mummy. Louie, however, actually already knew how to make pasta (a talent he probably thought wouldn't pay off anytime soon). The cowboys finished first, and were told to take off to Shanghai's fashion district.
From there, Jet & Cord had to work together inside the fashion house to match a sketch with the right clothing. Watching these two try and figure out this challenge was like watching a bad fish-out-of-water comedy. Lucky for them, they had plenty of time as they messed up the shirt as first only to finally figure it out. They were then told to take off to the local football stadium.
Brent & Caite finished the noodles second, and then Louie managed to focus in enough to zoom past the brothers in order to get into third (by "focus," I mean he spent much of the time singing and goofing off). Now battling frustration, Dan & Jordan decided to "hug it out," which eventually brought them enough encouragement to keep going.
As models, Brent & Caite didn't have too much problem with the challenge. The cops, meanwhile, managed to get right to the front door of the fashion house before walking in the opposite direction lost. They finally figured it out, which led to the hilarious challenge of watching two men with no fashion knowledge try and figure this out. They also had another challenge, as Dan & Jordan showed up just as they were trying to finish up. After a stocking switcheroo with the brothers (and a funny comment about the cops wanting a challenge involving "shooting"), both teams were neck-and-neck.
Jet & Cord quickly got a surprise -- there's another Roadblock, and (oh snap!) the person who sat out last time has to do this one. The challenge involved organizing puzzles pieces, getting them lined up, and then having a crowd in the stands flip them over in order to reveal the location of their next clue. Tough stuff, since the wind (and a chanting crowd) made it even trickier. This may even be one of the hardest challenges I've ever seen on the show, since frustration can set in fast.
Dan & Jordan were the first team to come up with the strategy of using something to hold the pieces down, and Cord quickly followed suit. The rodeo boy finished first, and quickly found out the location of the pit stop -- the only tricky part was that they had to take the subway. Brent & Caite were next, and it was quickly looking like Michael was falling behind.
The results of the puzzle ended up being the results of the leg. The cowboys won, followed by the models and the brothers (who once again talked about running the race as a "dream"). Unfortunately, Mike just couldn't detect anything in time to save him.
However, it was a non-elimination leg! Phil Keoghan was completely cold with his announcement, by the way. (In sad news, the world's smallest man, Pingping, has apparently passed away.)
