Kim Dillenbeck's adopted dog “Pig” has been quite the darling of the video world lately.
Pig was born with a birth defect which left her with no neck and deformed hips. Pig is also missing seven inches of her spine and several ribs.
Her condition makes her walk with a high-shouldered gait like a gorilla and a little hop like a frog. Instead of turning her head, Pig must spin her whole body around to see what's beside her. She suffers from respiratory problems, and loses her balance sometimes.
Along with being cute, Pig is also a hero. Found in a wooded area in Atlanta, it was her barking that saved the day, and the lives of three of her siblings.
"When she was really, really little she looked like a little fuzzy piglet," said Dillenbeck. Pig is smaller than her surviving littermates. She only weighs about 15 pounds.
"The lady who found her, the vet told her to have her (Pig) put down," stated Dillenbeck, who first heard about Pig while visiting her sister in Jefferson, Ga.
After she went to see the little dog, Dillenbeck noted "I bonded with Pig right away. Pretty quickly, I decided to be her mother because she probably wouldn't live. We assumed that by now, she would be suffocating under her own organs, or something like that, because of her shape."
Yet, although she suffers from the birth defect and gets tired easily, Pig is otherwise healthy.
"The whole clinic loves her. She comes in and she's a rock star here," stated veterinarian Dr. Rachael Hudson-Breland.
Pig seems to be a rock star everywhere, since the happy and friendly puppy draws a crowd wherever she goes. "I don't think Pig really knows that she looks different," Hudson-Breland said.
