The Chinook, developed in New Hampshire as a sled and drafting dog is an American breed that has been welcomed into the Working Group by the AKC. Chinooks also like to do backpacking, skijoring, sledding, jogging, and hiking. They are good with children and other dogs.

The new edition to the Hound Group is the Portuguese Podengo Pequeno. It is a small dog with erect ears and wedge shaped head. They are bred to hunt mostly rabbits and because of their strong desire to hunt they cannot be trusted off leash if they are not in a fenced in yard.
