The bluegrass stylings of The Time Jumpers have reigned over Monday nights at 3rd & Lindsley for some time now, but this coming week they’ll be joined by a new wave of bluegrass royalty – The Abrams Brothers.
Brothers John and James Abrams were born in Canada, to a family who had been playing bluegrass for several generations. They began performing on stage with their family at ages seven and ten, respectively. They joined with a cousin, Elijah, to form The Abrams brothers over ten years ago. Although they’ve been performing for that long – John is only 22 years old, while James is 19.
As a band, they’ve played the Grand Ole Opry and many folk festivals. However, they just released their first album of original music this past fall. The CD, Northern Redemption, features nine original songs and a cover of Coldplay’s Viva la Vida (see video).
In this incarnation of the family band, John and James share the lead vocals. John also plays guitar, mandolin, keyboard, and percussion; James plays violin; and Elijah plays bass. Sometimes they also perform with a drummer.
