While the Oscars are over, it is certain the entertainment shows will continue discussing the wins and losses and the clothing hit and misses. To many those are the highlights of the broadcast. Although it may sound morbid I most look forward to seeing the dead people. The memoriam is a chance to honor the actors and actresses lost throughout the year. Sadly, the most publicized celebrity deaths are those that end tragically at their own hands or through some mistaken misfortune.
Then there are those who die of natural causes or were not as well known and we do not hear anything about them. There are some wonderful character actors whose faces we have seen in many films, but we may not know their names. Which is really a complement to them, because their work speaks for itself and they make an impression in the films their in. Let us take a look at few beloved character actors that passed last year.
Ernest Borgnine was one of the late great actors honored in the ceremony. He had pivotal roles in many films including; Gattaca, Escape From New York, Red, From Here to Eternity. In a personal favorite, Super Fuzz, he plays the naive police Sgt. Dunlop. Unfortunately for him, his protégé Dave Speed (Terence Hill) gets exposed to radiation and inherits super powers. Dave drives him crazy trying to convince him of his powers and his keen ability to see crimes in progress inside buildings and trucks, etc. While the Sgt. thinks he is either making him the bud of practical joke or that Dave has lost his mind, he still believes he is superior. The Sgt. is also unknowingly infatuated with an actress who is one of the criminal masterminds. The movie is based on the super hero comic book. It has stood the test of time with it quirky 80's style humor and is worth checking out. (Watch the clip)
