Celebrating the best films of 2009

(My choices are in ITALICS and the actual winners are in BOLD.)

The sky is the limit with hosts like Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.  Last year's show, featuring the best opener for the awards given by Hugh Jackman, is sure to be a hard one to top, but if there is a duo that can do it, it's certainly is Steve and Alec.

It began with Neal Patrick Harris walking out on stage and random and singing an opening song about "No One Wants to Do It Alone".  You can easily tell they wanted to capture the success from last years incredible opening sequence with Jackson.  It was okay, not the best thing I've ever seen.

It was immediately followed by Alec and Steven lowering "from the sky".  Alec goes well opposite the veteran host Steve Martin.  Their opening was much better than Harris's, taking jabs at one another as well as the multiple nominees.

"You know, Gabourey and I have something in common. In our first films we were both born poor and black." ~~Steve Martin

"And they don't just give out Oscars to stand up comedians, but I don't have to tell you that." ~~~Alec Baldwin

I loved the dedication sequence given by James Taylor.  It was difficult to see the numerous people we lost last year that changed the film industry.

For the first time ever, the winners of all the acting categories received the SAG, Golden Globe, and Academy Award.  While an actor or actress has won all the awards before for the same role, this is the first time all four categories were won by the same person for their roles.

This was also the first time a woman won Best Director.
