LIFE Book’s latest endeavor, “The ‘80s: Remembering a Wild and Crazy Time,” will hit newsstands on Feb. 1 across the United States. With no other decade more influenced by world events, this 112-page soft-back book is an absolute must have for any 80s enthusiast.
The 80s was the MTV generation. In conjunction with the 24-hour broadcast of music videos, television shows like Dynasty and Miami Vice set the tone of fashion…scary fashion. The 80s was also a time of decadence, with a mantra of “The bigger, the better,” which influenced both lifestyles and hairstyles … on a grand scale.
Along with the aforementioned influencers of 80s fashion and lifestyle, this was a decade filled with groundbreaking history. The fall of the Berlin Wall, which broke the divide between the oppressive German Democratic Republic and freedom in West Berlin. And Live Aid, a concert held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London, and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, which brought the world’s attention to the famine crisis in Ethiopia.
