Award season is upon us and the fashion is in full bloom. Last night, the red carpet was filled with stunning style and the stars at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards had all the fashion critics talking.
Fashion favorites of this high profile night included Glee starlet, Lea Michele, who stunned in an antique embroidered illusion dress by Marchesa, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo actress, Rooney Mara, who looked edgy, sexy and chic in a black, silk faille Nina Ricci dress with bow ribbon detailing, the Puss in Boots actress, Salma Hayek who dazzled in a black and gold art deco Gucci evening gown, and Young Adult star, Charlize Theron, who looked soft and seductive in a pale pink Dior couture gown, which featured a plunging neckline and thigh-high slit.
Also at the top of the best dressed list was Emma Stone, who wore a custom-made, deep plum and raspberry, tulle siren Lanvin gown with embroidered shoulders and crystal eagle leather belt. Madonna looked as fabulous as ever in her dark green embroidered gown with cap sleeves by Reem Acra. Sofia Vergara wore a teal (one of the hottest color trends at the Golden Globes) custom Vera Wang gown that showed off those killer curves.
With so many fabulous gowns, it was hard to choose favorites. Also looking stunning was Sarah Hyland in vintage Dolce and Gabbana, Mila Kunis in Dior, Jessica Biel in Elie Saab Haute Couture, Reese Witherspoon in Zac Posen, Kate Winslet in Jenny Packham, and Maria Menounos in Blumarine.
But not every starlet impressed the fashion critics. Piper Perabo chose an unflattering pale gray gown with a massive skirt and sheer bodice from the Theysken's Theory Collection. Naya Rivera wore a gray silk Vera Wang dress that hid her knockout figure and left her lost in the crowd. And while credit must be given to Dianna Agron for taking a major fashion risk, some were confused by the intricate laser-cut swan detailing of her dramatic red Giles dress. Possibly the least favorite of the night was Sarah Michelle Gellar, who missed the mark in her blue and white Monique Lhullier dress. While it won the approval of her 2-year-old daughter, is was slammed by fashion critics on Twitter.
