We accepted a reader's challenge to find the very best thrifty fashion deals in Columbia, spending not more than $5.00. With $5.00 and three days to search local consignment shops and thrift stores, this is what we found.
We made some fabulous finds for Columbia thrifty fashion shoppers, and covered the landscape from versatile classic denim to Missoni-influence to 70’s nostalgia, added a few big designer names, and a touch of bling.
We began by finding fashion treasures hiding in the sale racks at Roundabouts Consignments. Among her finds were a brand new Norton McNaughton bright rose crossover top with butterfly sleeves for $4.00 and a Max Studio V-neck ¾ sleeve top done in a burgundy, pink, black, green and gold Missoni-inspired print, also for $4.00.
Columba thrift shops are virtual treasure troves of even more fashion steals. At Goodwill and Stepping Stones we found that $5.00 could purchase Rider stonewashed bootcut jeans, a Liz Baker spring-weight one-button navy blazer, an Anne Klein long floral print scarf, a leopard print belt or an Erika & Co. light blue pinstripe blouse…with over $3.00 extra
We visited Good Samaritan Family Thrift Store and His House, happily leaving with brand new Basic Editions “Irene” bone flats (still in the box), a pair of Old Navy straight leg black trousers, a beaded necklace with a black center pendant, and a Sag Harbor pink tank and black and pink floral blouse in mint condition, with money left over.
Fashion finds at Sunshine Thrift Store, Vietnam Veterans Thrift Store and Palmetto Thrift Store yielded New York & Company wide leg black trousers, an L.L. Bean pink pima cotton V-neck tee in “like new”: condition, an Izod pink Breast Cancer Awareness tee, brand new with tags attached, and the best find of all, a spotless Tignanello large white shopper with black trim.
It’s amazing how much we can do with a little money and a little time and determination.Hellp support out local thrift stores, and save like a pro!
