The 47th Chicago International Film Festival: Now with 100 percent more Clooney

The stock continues to rise for the 47thChicago International Film Festival, and it hasn’t even officially begun yet.  Today it was announced that Alexander Payne’s latest film “The Descendants” has been added to the festival lineup.  The film stars the one and only George Clooney, and will screen on October 18 at 8:45pm.

Alexander Payne has been a critical favorite with such films as “Election” and “About Schmidt”, and his last film was the Oscar-winning “Sideways.” Payne took home the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for the film in 2005, and with “The Descendants” he once again contributes to a screenplay based on a literary work.  “The Descendants” tells the story of Matt King, a man who must inform the entire family that his wife was in an accident.  That’s when his daughter tells him that his spouse was cheating on him.

As if the duo of Clooney and Payne wasn’t enough, a second film was announced today as well.  “Butter” is the latest release from director Jim Field Smith(“She's Out of My League”), and stars Jennifer Garner, Olivia Wilde and Hugh Jackman.  The comedy about butter carving also features Alicia Silverstone and “Twilight” player Ashley Greene.  “Butter” will screen on October 19 at 8pm as part of the Best of the Festival program.
