As the calendar year winds down, there are still scores of fantastic running events on hand to choose from around Greenville and nearby areas this month.
December 7, 2013
Road Warrior Half Marathon (“The oldest, toughest race in the South”) - 8:30a.m.
Furman Flatlander 5K- 9:00a.m.
The legendary Paris Mountain Road Race returns to Furman University for its 43rd running on Saturday, December 7. The event includes the daunting Road Warrior Half Marathon which takes runners up the 1,900-plus peak of Paris Mountain. Come out and see why this distance event (now in its second year as a Half Marathon) has long been held in high esteem as one of the most grueling road races in the entire region. The event also features the Furman Flatlander 5K around the university’s scenic campus. The 5K has been described as one of the fastest courses in the Upstate. Top 3 overall Male/Female AND top 3 finishers in each age groups earn their horns. This is also the final Run In Running Series event of the year where Greenville Track Club (GTC) members can earn points in their respective age groups. Hundreds of youth representing “Girls On The Run” will also be in attendance as a way to promote running and a healthy lifestyle in local schools. Half Marathon finishers are invited to Beer Garden sponsored by Thomas Creek Brewery following the event as well as snacks, music, and plenty more!
Late registration is available on race morning at Timmons Arena (Furman Campus) from 7:00-8:20a.

Michael’s Pizzeria Christmas Cruise 5K. Michael’s Pizzeria (Downtown Easley, SC)
The 4th annual event has quickly grew into one of the largest road races in Easley (311 participants in 2012). Following the race will be awards (which include Wal-Mart Gift Cards) and the CrossFit Challenge course returns giving competitors the chance to take on a variety of physical assessments. Event proceeds will benefit the Dream Center, a faith-based “hub” that offers support to those living in poverty.
14th Annual Laurens Reindeer Run 5K. Laurens Family YMCA (Downtown Laurens, SC)
6th Annual Sugar Creek Jingle Bell Jog 5K Run. Sugar Creek neighborhood (Greer, SC)
Children’s Elf Run (¾ miles)- 2:15p.m.
Jingle Bell Jog 5K- 3:00p.m.
Event will promote physical exercise with race proceeds going to local charities (The Frazee Center, Daily Bread Ministries).
Scott Land Hope from Heroes Charity 5K Run. Legacy Charter School (Greenville, SC)
5K race to raise awareness to colon cancer and to support Scott Land who has been battling colon cancer since October 2012. Lunch and post race concert by Retro Vertigo.

The GTC Santa 5K Run. Greenville County Square (Greenville, SC)
The final GTC event of 2013 will undoubtedly put you into the holiday spirit. Wear your favorite holiday costume and don’t forget to bring your jingle bells and LED lights along. Note the change in venue this year as the Santa Run starts at Greenville’s County Square and finishes a quarter mile away at Falls Park. The 5K course is relatively flat with a net 50’ elevation drop. All proceeds from the event benefit the Kroc Center of Greenville Scholarship Fund as well as other local charities.

Greenville Christmas Walk. Greenville County Square/Cleveland Park (Greenville, SC)
3.3 mile fitness walk featuring holiday lights, Christmas music, and plenty of decorations. All participants will receive lighted Santa hats, an event wristband and free refreshments at the hot chocolate stop midway through the course. Proceeds from the event will benefit local charities.

New Year’s Eve Champagne Run. ICAR campus (Greenville, SC)
Come ring in the New Year with this inaugural event presented by the GTC-Elite team and PACE Running Magazine. The event features a 5K course run under the lights, which also features a one of a kind centipede race. The after race party will include awards, costume prizes, music, refreshments (provided by Henry’s Smokehouse and Thomas Creek Brewery) and much more!
