Of the top 16 moral behaviors that spark controversy in America, doctor-assisted suicide, same-sex relations, abortion, and having a baby outside of wedlock divide the country the most.

Almost half the country says that doctor-assisted suicide is morally acceptable, on the flipside, half the country also says it's morally wrong. It's a sharp contrast to unassisted suicide, where 77% of the country agree that it's morally wrong. The most acceptable of the four major issues is having a baby out of wedlock, where only 40% say it's wrong, and 54% say it's OK.

As a sign of the times, divorce is the most acceptable social controversy today. Just under 70% of Americans say it's OK, and only 23% say it's wrong. The most unacceptable controversy is married men and women having an affair. More than 90% of respondents say extra-marital affairs are morally wrong, and only 6% say they're acceptable.

With California's Prop 8 and Elena Kagan's SCOTUS confirmation, same-sex relations have taken over the top spot of the news as of late. Same-sex marriage is the second most divisive issue sparking controversy in America. A little more than 50% say gay marriage is OK, and 43% say it's wrong. It's safe to say abortion and same-sex marriage will be the two defining issues in upcoming political elections.

Democrats and Republicans are largely divided on issues regarding sex and reproduction. Gay marriage is the most divisive issue between the two and polygamy is the topic that the two groups agree on the most.

The topic that divided men and women the most was buying or wearing clothing made from animal fur. Almost 3/4 of men said it was morally acceptable and less than half of women said the same.

Ummm, no! The main issue is having that ignorant Marxist in the White House trying to turn this country into a parasitic, socialist third world country.

Hi, I'm Lou! I like to comment on EVERYTHING. No, my comments don't have any substance, but it DOES give me a great chance to advertise my useless anonymous surfing site. Sure, I could just post the link without my inane Advert-Comment, but then, you might think I was a business whore and not just a regular guy with diverse interests.

WOW THAT REALLY DOES MAKE ALOT OF SENSE DUDE.

@Michael O. Not agreeing are disagreeing, but do you even know how to define a socialist state. I say that because I don't understand how you can be parasitic and a socialist at the same time. These things by definition are almost opposites.

  • Michael O 1 year ago

L.B, you really are an idiot. A socialist is nothing but a parasite. They believe they have a right to things they never earned.

Michael O. - I'm vaguely left-leaning, and I think that's an unfair charicature you're making. I can afford my own stuff, because I'm relavitely well off and have a nice job. But I feel that some people who aren't as priviliged as me require encouragement and financial provision to give them a helping hand to get to the position I am. In practice, it doesn't work like this, but to say all socialists are parasites is untrue.

Michael, I'm terribly sorry to burst your bubble, but you don't understand the terms you're using.
Educate yourself and stop listening to everything that Fox crams into your head. If you believe they don't have a political agenda, you're wrong. Read up on socialism and Marxism. If your views are the same afterwards, that's fine, but disinformation is spread so vigorously among people nowadays that when I see people calling Obama a marxist, socialist, or communist I think of that line from Princess Bride when Inigo Montoya says "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
Try to approach the articles from an unbiased point of view. You don't have to agree or even like it, but try to understand why these political theories appeal to people.

Right because there is no parasitic activity in Capitalism. Corporate executives earn every single dollar of their 10+ million dollar annual pay while their personal assistants and other employees do large part of the work and make $50k per year.

The answer lies in a careful balance of socialism and capitalism. The extremes of either are self defeating.

Two women embrace, or two women (look, they're in heels!) face each other? I understand not wanting to take sides on an issue, but the accompanying picture of women waiting to hear the verdict on prop 8 - or rather, their feet - is an editorial cop out from either side of the argument.

Seems to me that big business capitalists are getting all the "welfare" and who is paying for that? That's right you and me... well maybe not Michael, he sounds like one of those tax revolt guys that talk smack but don't actually contribute anything but is more than happy to take a farm subsidy.. medicare... disability checks.... all the while ranting about socialism...

I think you live in a bubble and are way to willing to buy the crappy "moralistic" rhetoric that is the facade of politics today. Same sex marriage and abortion will be the two defining issues of this election???????????? What bizarre world do you live. How about the economy, the war, the federal debt, corruption in Washington, broken system. If anything, this is one of the first election cycles in a long time to not have moral issues as the forerunners. To boot you left of medical marijuana and drug use. This is why the Examiner sucks. Thanks Digg for sending off to read somebody's notes from Friday night happy hour.

    ROFL.

What makes this even funnier is that none of these issues are any of your business. Oh, how people love to tell others how to live...

@Michael O: He's trying, but thank god for smart, intelligent people like you who can see through the bull***t. He thought he could secretly try to convert the US to a socialist country without us noticing!

    end scarcasm here.

Too bad you just throw out terms from 1950's cold war propaganda videos. Learn what socialism and marxism actually mean first.

Plus, just my own thoughts, but if you want to see what happens when you let people make all of the decisions without government intervention, look around you right now. What do you see? Corruption? Greedy corporations? Ignorant businessmen? Recession?

To dear, sweet, Michael O; wake up. You live in a third world nation already. Your "political issues" put you on par with Uganda, your educational (especially collegiate education) quality is sub-standard and on par with Armenia or Belize, your healthcare system is an abomination, and you people ignorantly build debt like no other. The only reasons the US is not widely considered "third world" are that you insist on acting like a developed nation in the field of international politics with the G7, G8, G20, and UN; meanwhile having a large enough military (of course inferior to Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq) to be taken seriously.

Listen to the ignorant liberals. (: Socialism is not what this country is about. If you want to be gimme, cradle to grave parasitic children, then move to Cuba or N. Korea.

And yes, I do know what they mean. You obviously don't. But then again you're too ignorant to know your party was taken over 20 years ago by communist. They even throw rallies paid for by communists and the ignorant Marxist democrats didn't even know it. The senator whom attended was so stupid, and admitted later he didn't realize it. Democrats for 20-30 have been nothing but parasitic leeches. Always looking for the next handout.
