The 31 Days of Music – Best of 2012 – Number 2 (Photos)

The District AttorneysSlowburner

2012 saw the District Attorneys (DA’s) take the music world by the balls and deliver a batch of tunes that restores confidence to music listeners everywhere that there is more out there than TV contestant winners, computer manipulated singers and over marketed images. After building a devout following through endless touring and multiple EP’s, the 5 dudes from Atlanta released their debut record, Slowburner, on the This Is American Music label. It is a 12 song masterpiece full of spacey guitars, thumping rhythms and catchy lyrics. Sonic earmarks of the bands that influenced them (The Replacements, Beach Boys, Modest Mouse) litter the record giving the listener a collection of fresh new rock tunes that have a familiar and comfortable feel to them.

The title track “Slowburner” is the introduction to the new music, it draws the listener into the album with scorching guitar work and killer harmonies as it readies the ears for the pleasure that is to come. The DA’s exercise their ability to write catchy songs with “Boomtown” and “Madison Row”. Both are short, fast and loaded with jangly guitars. Dealing with the age old subject matter of girls they have nailed the 60’s pop tune vibe with “Confusion Of Trust”. To partake in what the DA’s do best then you need to set your volume to LOUD and listen to “California Fire”, “The End” and “Worry About Your Health”. These three tunes are loaded with fuzzy guitars, the right amount of twang and smooth vocals. They start nice and mellow and then slowly rise to a fury of sonic bliss before gently bringing you back down. These three tunes highlight all things that are good with the DA’s.

Slowburner is full of some of the sweetest music I have treated my ears to this year. It hooks you from the first sound creating the urge to listen to it over and over again. Joining the ranks of the rare albums that make you want to listen from start to finish, there is no filler here just a plethora of killer tunes for the listener to enjoy. Give it a listen and introduce yourself to the District Attorneys because I have a feeling there will be a lot of noise from them in the future.
