The 2nd Greatest Spectacle in Racing

The Indy 500 has long been called "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing", but in Indianapolis, the 2nd Greatest Spectacle in Racing is the Pinewood Derby at the Indiana State Museum.

Unofficially it is the longest, fastest, and steepest track in the world. Suspended from the museum's second floor balcony and stretching a fast 125 feet across the Great Hall, the track's four lanes allow cars to shoot up to 250 miles per hour (translated time).

Boy Scouts from a 5-state area come to the museum each March to compete on the last Saturday of the month (March 31, 2012) in official races with huge trophies. Bring your own Pinewood car or use one from the museum's own collection!
