From Texas to Kentucky, from the Southwest to Cincinnati, chili recipes can vary from place to place and there is always a fun secret ingredient or preparation that makes it unique. Everybody has a go-to recipe and we all think our special concoction is the very best.
The 2nd annual Brookhaven Chili Cook Off takes place on Saturday, October 12, 2013 and offers a relaxing afternoon of food, fun and live entertainment while getting some great ideas for your fall chili recipe. Sample some of Atlanta’s great restaurants and enter your family recipe to let the judges see what you got. The possibilities really are endless: Beans or no beans, spicy or mild, chicken, beef or vegetarian. And how can we forget the wide variety of toppings: sour cream, cheese, onions or crackers. With chili just about anything goes.
This FREE friendly neighborhood festival will feature over 60 restaurant & amateur teams plus a few local area businesses competing for bragging rights, plaques, medals, cash and prizes. Each team will be cooking up 5 pounds or more of a variety of hot and cold chili that can be tasted by festival goers starting at noon. A limited amount of tasting spoons will be available in advance on their website for $5 or at the gate for $10, so arrive early. Proceeds will benefit the Atlanta Fundraising Foundation. The festival features lots of entertainment and activities with live music from three bands starting at noon plus a kidzone area, arts & crafts as well as great food and beverages.
An all-star line-up of judges will determine the winner of both the Restaurant & Amateur division competitions featuring Chef Joey Riley from Kaleidoscope Bistro & Pub, Chef Brian Traudt from There, Chef Daniel Chance from Campagnolo Restaurant + Bar & Henry's Midtown Tavern, Food Bloggers Jason Apple from Kitchen Man Can and Jimmy Sobeck from Eat It Atlanta and Atlanta Food writer Sarah Gleim. The two other divisions are Most Spirited Team and People's Choice Award with the awards ceremony starting at 2pm. For information on entering your chili team or other info about the festival please visit the website at www.BroohavenChiliCookOff.com.
