The Central Iowa Blues Society has announced the bands that will be participating in this year's Iowa Blues Challenge (band category only). The Iowa Blues Challenge's preliminary event will be held Thursday, April 10th at 7:00 p.m. at Zimm's Food & Spirits in Des Moines. Competing for two spots in the regional finals will be the Jefferson County Green Band (Fairfield), The El Dorados (Des Moines), Hot Tamale & the Red Hots (Des Moines), and Rosendahl (Des Moines). The event has an $8 cover charge ($5 for Blues Society members).
The second preliminary event will be held by the Mississippi Valley Blues Society on Sunday, April 13th at 6 p.m. at the Muddy Waters in Bettendorf, Iowa. Competing for two spots in the regional finals will be Phineas J's (Galesburg/Quad Cities), Concrete Slim & the Sidewalks (Quad Cities), The Harris Collection (Davenport), and the Mercury Brothers (Quad Cities). The qualifier at The Muddy Waters has a $7 cover ($5 for Blues Society members).
The two top bands from each of the preliminary qualifiers will then compete in the Iowa Blues Challenge finals held at the Hotel Fort Des Moines on Saturday, May 17. There, the top dog will win cash, recording time, opportunities for paid gigs throughout the year, and entry into and travel expenses for the 2015 International Blues Challenge in Memphis.
