Sometimes there can be no go reason for something. Like a snuggie, or just about any product that as “As Seen On TV” emblazoned across the front pf the package. Yet there are a few useful things; a waffle maker for example. That might seem like a useless thing, however if you do have one you are glad you do.
There are cars that fit into this category.
We had just such one recently. And it was a very good thing to have.
We’ve had other Infiniti’s before; good cars, luxurious, worth the money. Specifically, the QX 56, a large very opulent SUV that gives others in its class a run for their money.
We shouldn’t have been surprised than when we were recently given a 2014 Infiniti Q60 to spend a week with. The version we had was the convertible, a hard top one no less. The exterior lines seemed a little more graceful then the G37 we had last year. This seemed a bit strange since the G60 is simply a renamed, rebadged G37. Yet , on first glance this one seemed a little more stylish, a little more elegant. Perhaps it was the hardtop convertible, as opposed to the straight up coupe we had last year. Maybe the lighter color smacks of a bit more elegance. Whatever the reason the first look at the G60 means you are looking at one pretty car.
The 2014Q60 Convertible is available in three models: Q60 Convertible, Q60S Convertible 6MT and Q60 IPL Convertible. There are a ton of options and packages available; like the Premium Package that features the Bose Open Air Audio Sound System with 13 speakers and AudioPilot® 2.0 technology, and Bose® front seat Personal Speakers. There is also climate-controlled seats with heating and cooling functions available, driver's seat power lumbar support and Rear Sonar System.
Then there’s the Sport Package that gives you split V-spoke 19x8.5-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with sport brakes featuring aluminum 4-piston opposed front calipers with ventilated discs; sport-tuned steering gear, unique sport front fascia, aluminum pedals and foot rest and solid magnesium paddle shifters.
The Technology Package adds Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Pre-Crash Seat Belts, rain-sensing flat-blade front wipers, and an Advanced Climate Control System (ACCS) with an air purifier. Also available are a Performance Tire & Wheel Package, Navigation Package, and Interior Accent Package with High Gloss Maple accents on the center console, instrument panel and doors.
The driver-oriented cockpit has the Infiniti signature instrument panel design with Infiniti electroluminescent instrumentation with a white illumination color scheme, that includes an integrated multi-function information drive computer display. There’s a double hand-stitched leather-covered steering wheel , with standard wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls. The Q60 Convertible with Sport Package also has solid magnesium paddle shifters for its 7-speed automatic transmission.
On the road the Q60 is much more than simply a thing of beauty. . Every 2014 Q60 Convertible comes equipped with a standard 3.7-liter V6 powerplant rated at 325 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. This power is delivered through a choice of an electronically controlled 7-speed automatic transmission with manual mode, downshift rev matching, Drive Sport (DS) mode, Adaptive Shift Control (ASC) and available solid magnesium paddle shifters; or a responsive, or a lightweight close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission on the Q60S Convertible 6MT.
We had the 7-speed automatic transmission and the power delivered through the finally tuned suspension was superb. With the top up the drive is enjoyable, however with the top down the drive is divine. Yes, this a coupe and it supposed to carry four, but like many other coupes you won’t put two people comfortably in the back seat, nor anything else for that matter. So while this coupe doesn’t have much purpose other than getting from point A to point B, thanks to the luxury and quality of the Q60 the drive itself is the reason.
