The Oscar nominations for the 2013 Academy Awards include some well expected picks, but also quite a few shockers as well.
When the 2013 Oscar nominations were announced on Thursday, there list included many non-surprising choices, but the Academy also picked a few shocking contenders.
For Best Picture, big box-office hits "Lincoln," "Argo," "Django," "Zero Dark Thirty" and "Les Miserables" were practically a shoe-in for a nomination. But, the more shocking picks included smaller films like "Beasts of the Southern Wild," "Silver Linings Playbook," "Amour" and "Life of Pi."

As for the Best Actress and Best Actor nominations, Daniel Day Lewis' nod for his portrayal of "Lincoln" was no surprise, nor was Anne Hathaway's and Hugh Jackman's for their work in "Les Miserables." Also expected to get nominated were Jessica Chastain for "Zero Dark Thirty" and Naomi Watts for "The Impossible."
However, Denzel Washington's nod for his work in "Flight" was a bit of a surprise as was 85-year-old Emmanuel Riva's for her work in "Amour" and Joaquin Phoenix's for his work in the little known film "The Master."
