The 2013 Int’l CES Experience in Series (P2) Sookbox, Vuzix, Sculpeto, Valencell (Video)

Sookbox:

In layman terms, it is a box; defined as a computer server; inclusively, you can load music, video games, and dvds, and also access the internet. Its then connected to all the TVs in your home; and by using a smart device, such as, a smartphone, tablet, laptop, etc, you can get any or all TVs in the house, to play something, i.e. sporting events online, Netflix, your favorite dvds. However, the design potential comes in when traveling. For example, say you’re visiting a friend or staying at a hotel; there’s a partner like - small IP recognition device, they’ve created; it’s both lightweight and comparable to a holder case for cotton swabs, say a 36 holder. You attach this mini IP box, via use of a cable, to their TV set; obviously, there’s more to it with older type TVs and when dealing with hotels. Essentially, it’s a way to use their TV, to watch programs or play games or access the internet, via the server that’s residing at your home. And remember, the commands are done with your smart device. (www.sookbox.com)

From a business perspective, they had just recently applied for the patent. The computer server box, according to them, is commercially ready. In interviewing the creator, one is reminded of how a business idea, surrounded by the right support cast, as personally pulled together, coupled with one’s own passion (i.e. not someone else’s ideological belief/career system they desire for you), and thinking outside the box, no pun intended, makes all the difference in the world, toward success.

Vuzix Smart Glasses M100:

I did get a chance to try them on and experience a brief watching of a video through them; it’s a hands-free device; but, unfortunately, because circumstances prevented me from getting there at my scheduled time, it just became impossible, with the influx of others, inclusive of media, to really go through the product. Apparently, it was very popular. (http://www.sculpteo.com/en/)

Sculpeto:

This is another one where circumstances prevented me from getting to see an actual demonstration, as planned; however, I did have a chance to speak with them during CES Unveiled. It reflects what is big in 3D printing; one has the capability of there own creation coming to life; so say for example, you want a custom made casing for your phone. It could be a picture of your kids, or perhaps some other design, however shaped. Clearly, Sculpeto does more. (http://www.sculpteo.com/en/)

Valencell’s PerformTek:

If you’re into health and fitness or a trainer or athlete, it’s the type of gadget that you’ll definitely find some usefulness for. It’s a real-time provider of biometric readings, inclusive of heart rate, distance, speed, and calories burned. In interviewing this group, the proof is in the pudding. So, their showcase entailed showing the product in action. You have people; there are using the buds which doubles’ as sensors and earphones; and via the app and smart device in use, a large display reflected the physiological data. Thus, while jogging or biking or walking or racing, you can view results as happening, or check out at your leisure later. (www.valencell.com)

From a business perspective, their mindset illustrates how alliances and partnerships are an effective pathway for success. They have the technology, but they leave the earplug portion to an entity, like Iriver Ltd, who knows better that side of the equation. And accordingly, they have a process for dialoguing with industries to expand the potential application, healthcare and sports being the obvious ones. No doubt interest is being shown.
