The 2013 holiday promo card is Stocking Tiger

The Winter Solstice is drawing nigh, and that can only mean one thing in the Magic world - winter expansion previews! Okay, well, don't get your hopes up - it's sort of two things: That, and the annual "happy holidays" promo card. These, some of the rarest Magic cards in existence, are printed in strictly limited (not Limited) quantities and given to Wizards of the Coast employees, subcontractors, and associates. And they're always a lot of fun to read about even if most of us will never own one, given they're silver-bordered Un-cards. The 2013 holiday card was revealed by Trick Jarrett's Arcana article on the mothership today, and it's a big cat with big card advantage potential and an atrocious pun for a name (on Stalking Tiger).

Stocking Tiger 5

Artifact Creature - Cat Construct (Special)

Stocking Tiger enters the battlefield with a sealed Magic booster pack under it.

When Stocking Tiger deals combat damage to a player, unwrap the booster pack and put it into your hand.

Just hope yours isn't full of coal golems.

3/3

R&D has hit another humor, flavor, and design home run with this one - it really captures the feeling of rifling through your stocking stuffers, and a huge Booster Tutor is just the thing to liven up an Un-sets game. The fact that it's potentially fifteen (!!!) cards of pure card advantage is balanced by the fact that, unless you're playing a seriously toolboxy Five Color Goodstuff deck, most of the stuff in the booster will be useless chaff. Gotta love that flavor text and art by fan favorite Terese Neilsen, too.

Wish you could grab a copy of Stocking Tiger? Let me know in the comments.
