The 2013 Colorado Golden Gloves winds down tonight with many champions determined through stiff competition or by lack thereof (‘walkover champions’ named when no opposition signed up for that particular weight/age/level of competition) with 24 bouts this evening (Friday) leading into the Finals tomorrow night where Open-Class Champions advance to Regional Golden Gloves competition April 20th here in Denver at Terreno-Macizo, 4700 Lipan St.
There are not enough words to express appreciation for the many hours of hard work put into this Golden Gloves competition by Colorado Golden Gloves Chairman Jess Mora, with Colorado Golden Gloves Board of Directors Jeanne DePriest and E. Paul Kelly, Jr. having apparently taken up residence at the Crowne Plaza Convention Center, 15500 E. 40th Ave., their tireless efforts maybe going unnoticed by some but for those who realize what it takes to pull off a show of this magnitude, these two specifically are to be commended.
This is meant in no way to slight the many volunteers, officials, boxers, coaches and fans contributing to the success of the 2013 Colorado Golden Gloves, these folks spending countless hours helping as well.
Tomorrow (Saturday) evening at 4:30PM the, 2013 Colorado Golden Gloves Hall-of-Fame banquet and induction ceremonies begin with this years’ class including Dr. Russell Simpson (physician), Jeanne DePriest (official), Victor Abad (coach) and (posthumously) Joey Romero (boxer) receiving due recognition for their dedicated support of amateur boxing here in Colorado, specifically the Golden Gloves.
If you didn’t purchase tickets to the Hall-of-Fame Banquet (your reserved ringside seating included) some ringside tickets ($20) do remain available for the Finals competition and can be purchased by contacting Jess Mora at 303-880-5515.
General admission tickets are $15 dollars and can be purchased at the door with some reserved seating available for tonight 's competition by contacting Jess Mora, bouts beginning at 6:30PM.
