The 2012 Olympics started off with a bang Friday evening in London. Danny Boyle, an English film director, reportedly spent £27 million, or a little over $42 million, creating the footage viewed throughout the world. The Opening Ceremonies included the Queen of England, Sir Paul McCartney, and even Lord Voldemort. The 2012 Olympics will run for 17 days and includes events such as soccer, football, hockey, archery, judo, boxing, volleyball, and much more.
The Opening Ceremonies were described "as ironic, complex and beautiful as Britain herself" and told numerous stories about the history of the British. One of the most discussed events included a filmed sequence with the Queen. During a pre-filmed skit, she appeared with James Bond and headed to the Olympics in a helicopter. A stunt person dressed as the Queen then parachuted down from a helicopter flying overhead. A somewhat ruffled looking Queen of England then joined the rest of the dignitaries.
Twitter lit up with tweets regarding what may have been the first lesbian kiss to be broadcast on Saudi Arabian television. Although this may not have been written in the Opening Ceremony's plans, it has already been called a milestone. The 2012 London Olympics are most certainly off to an unforgettable start.
