The Oscar nominations are officially out for the 84th Annual Academy Awards. This year was full of many great films that regardless of being nominated or winning will still be recognized for years to come. There were many obvious choices and there were a few shocking choices for different categories this year.
One particular category that raised some eyebrows was the best picture category. This year, as in the past couple years, there were nine movies nominated. This started in 2010 to have the Academy vote for ten movies and since then the Acedemy members can input their say of ten movies and the top choices, based on a number system, will be selected for best picture.
The best picture category has nine movies and they are 'War Horse', 'The Artist', 'Tree of Life', 'Moneyball', 'The Descendents', 'Midnight in Paris', 'Hugo' 'The Help', and 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close'.
These were all great movies, but with this year having so many good movies, did these nine deserve a spot on the best picture list? The four movies that will most likely not win the Oscar for best picture are 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close', 'The Help', 'Moneyball', and 'Hugo'. Again, these were great movies but they are not Oscar worthy with the other contenders.
With those being cut out we have limited the list down to five movies as they have been in the past. The change to ten or so movies gives the credit to these other films but in all reality they are just fillers that usually do not have a chance.
With that being said, there were many that did not make the cut that should have. These movies were talked about positvely by mostly everyone that saw them. Some films that should have got the Oscar nod were 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo', and 'The Adventures of Tintin', among many others.
This year will be a very competitive year for the best picture and many other categories. One movie will probably not sweep the Oscars as it has in the past. To read about the other nominees please look into the Oscar nominations online.
