The 2011 GO Threads' Challenge included 37 teams across the United States who participated in a friendly competition to raise uniform orders and awareness for GO Threads. Collectively the teams secured orders for 4,856 ($97,100) school uniforms that will be distributed to children living in the poorest nations of the world. These uniforms will be produced at GO Threads' sewing centers, and will generate enough profit to care for over 90 children for an entire year!
When asked how GO Threads is impacting the communities where sewing centers are established, Joe Knittig, GO Project CEO, responded, “In a word: dignity. Men and women are working. Earning for their families. And helping care for orphans in their communities. Dependency drains. Dignity lifts."
Winners
Grand prize: GO Austin, 1,283 uniforms ($25,660), led by Stephanie Brown, won a trip for 2 to Haiti
“We had an opportunity to meet our Ugandan and Haitian brothers and sisters at their point of need, just as Christ asks us to care for others. The thought that we might be able to help children go to school and provide jobs for members of the local community gives me an inexpressible joy,” said Stephanie Brown.
Silver prize: Stitches for Britches, 382 uniforms ($7,644), led by Joe and Barb May of Kansas City, won a trip to Haiti
“The opportunity to lead a team for the GO Threads' Challenge provided on answer to the question . . . 'Now that you know, what are you going to do about it?' The concept is important to us because out efforts result in the education of children and the establishment of long-range commercial endeavors,” said Joe and Barb May.
Trip raffle: Hope . .. . one stitch at a time, 372 uniforms ($7,433), led by Kayla Gruenhaupt of Kansas City, won a trip to Haiti
“For me the Go Threads' Challenge meant that I could help these kids that I came to love when I was in Haiti. When I got back I was determined to do anything to help them. These kids are going to have confidence in themselves and all the parents that have gotten jobs can have pride in supporting their families,” said Kayla Gruenhaupt.

About Go Threads
GO Threads is a ministry that builds sewing centers which provide employment to workers in the poorest communities of the world, thereby empowering them to become self-sufficient and free from the need of pure aid. The uniforms that are produced at GO Threads sewing centers not only meet a basic human need for clothing, but instill dignity and improve self-esteem for the orphans.
At GO Threads, we're different than most non-profit organizations in one significant way: we don't want you to send us stuff. We want you to help us build businesses that care for orphans by sending purchase orders, not pure aid. - GO Threads
Go Threads is in need of funds to implement their vision. Donating to the GO Threads initiative is an act of empowering a community to move toward independence as opposed to merely proving charity that enables dependency. For a $20.00 donation toward one uniform you can be part of the fuel that powers GO Threads and makes this mission possible.
