There are two things that signal the start of the summer season. One is the phrase “Gentle Start Your Engines!” and the other is the Berea National Rib Cook-Off presented by the Berea City Club and Yuengling.

This year is the 16th time that the event has been held at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds in Berea, Ohio. The precise dates this year are May 23-26, 2014. Come rain or shine or heaven forbid that four letter word that begins with “s” the Rib Fest will go on. Parking is free all day and everyday and Friday is Free Admission Day with just $5.00 needed to get you in on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Children 12 and under are free all weekend long. Monday will be set aside to honor all active and retired military personnel showing military ID with free admission.

As in the past, Berea’s National Rib Cook-Off brings some of the top National Rib Teams to compete for First, Second and Third Place in the following categories: Best Ribs, Best Sauce and People’s Choice. The Awards Presentation is held on Memorial Day.

At the Berea National Rib Cook-Off, it’s all about the food. Once you have satisfied your taste buds for the taste of ribs there are a host of other great festival food and drink to try from Fried Veggies, Kettle Korn and Cotton Candy to name a few. Back by popular demand will be the Children’s Activity Area that features a Super-Slide, Kiddie-Bouncer and Rock Climbing Wall.

Friday Night is “Bike Night” sponsored by Rock-N-Roll City Harley-Davidson when all bikers are invited to bring their rides inside the gates to park next to the midway all weekend in a secure area.

The Fest would not be complete without the top notch entertainment that it offers. All visitors to the Fest are invited to enjoy a variety of local musical entertainment all weekend long at the Southwest General Health Center Stage.

Friday Night’s entertainment kicks off with “The Clayton Brothers” at 4PM followed by a 7PM Show with the “Burnt River Band” and closing the night with Headliner “Colin Dussault’s Blues Project” taking the stage at 9:30PM.

Country Music Lovers will enjoy Saturday with musical performances throughout the day starting at 2PM with “The Caliber Band” followed by shows by “Georgia & The Georgia Preachers”, “Coalies Run” and “The Stickers” taking the stage with 9PM show.

The musical entertainment stays in high-gear on Sunday Afternoon with London Flatts followed by Shockwave, My Manic Episode and Escape closing out the evening’s entertainment.

Memorial Day brings a little bit of country and a little bit of rock and roll to the fairgrounds with Cruisin’, Haywire, Monica Robins and the Whiskey Kings with the Logan Wells & Jerry Colosimo Variety Show closing the festival with a concert at 6:30PM.
