Here are 12 writing prompts for Memphis authors to work on during the holidays.

Night 1- Write 10 potential titles of books you'd absolutely hate to write.
Night 2- Create a character with the personality traits of someone you hate, but with the physical traits of someone you love.
Night 3 - Write a setting based upon the most horrible place you've ever seen.
Night 4 - Write a query letter to an agent telling them just how bad a writer you really are, but don't send it. (consider this to be therapeutic)
Night 5 - Write a 20-line poem about the worst Christmas of your life.
Night 6 - Write a letter to yourself telling you how things can get worse in the coming year and burn it.
Night 7 - Select a reference book on your shelf, take the first line of one chapter and the last line of another, and then write a story based upon them using each line as bookends to your own story.
Night 8 - Rewrite a fairy tale from the weakest character's point of view.
Night 9 - Turn on the TV and write a story based upon the first commercial ad you hear.
Night 10 - Go sit in a public place and eavesdrop on conversations. Create a romance story gone wrong based upon what you hear.
Night 11 - Write a story about singing in the buff with Santa on the roof of your house in the middle of the night. (try not to show, just tell this one)
Night 12 - Write about the most disgusting holiday food you've ever eaten or come across, and who made it.
