In the last 11 years, the Southern Entertainment Awards have become a staple for underground hip hop and culture in the south. The awards have grown from a small 3 city award show into one of the biggest underground award shows and events in all of hip hop. This award show has impacted over 15,000 careers including artists such as Big K.R.I.T, Nicki Minaj, B.O.B, Kia Shine, to name a few.
The ballot was released earlier this month, and the hash tag #SEAsAward was a trending topic on the social media outlet, twitter. The ballot is full of the top underground albums, singles, artists and groups from all over the south. Voting is now open on the website, www.SouthernEntAwards.com and runs until Jan. 15th. It is an open to the public voting system that has been very successful for the last 11 years.
The awards are set in 4 categories including, Radio, DJs, Media, and Service/Lifestyle Awards. This includes such awards as Artist of the Year, Producer of the Year, Executive of the Year, Album of the Year, and 30 more.
The award show destination is TBA and will take place March 28th-30th in 2014. The 4 day event, however, isn't just about the award show. The weekend is always full of valuable information for upcoming artists with excellent guest speakers, showcases, and an overall networking experience that is one of the biggest in the whole country.
Co-Founder, Janiro Hawkins, released this statement with this years ballot, "One thing that has held true as an important asset in the industry is the need to network and build relationships. The SEAs creates a 'family environment' for networking and education for those attending."
11 years and running strong, the SEAs doesn't forget about those we have lost over the years as well. They honor fallen legends like Jam Master Jay, Soulja Slim, and Camouflage with their own awards.
