Greetings again from my glad I can tread water corner of the world. We have a lot to go over this week class so let us get started.
Frank and hard working folks at Milano's are working overtime this week to make sure we have something to do to enjoy the post Christmas "glow". Coming up this Friday starting at 8 is the always fun and scarily unpredictable "GILBERT Karaoke". What a great way to work off those out of town guest stress points, than to jump up and sing a verse of "Get Off My Cloud" in front of complete strangers. WAIT THERE'S MORE!! Saturday its the Milano Post Christmas Party with "Them Kids". That starts @ 9, but get there early cause it will fill up. I plan on it...
Sunday its virtual musical candy store for all lovers of the blues, with the monthly Blues Jam, put on by the Greater Allen County Blues Society at the Lima Eagles on W Robb Ave. Probable Cause is the host band this time around, Minor Blues will also be performing and best part is, you don't have to be a member of the Eagles to enjoy the music. Starts @ 5...
And this just in, Never Again will be kicking 2013 to the curb at the home of Scramboli, Lombardo's on N Main Street in beautiful downtown Lima. The first chord is strummed at 10 and I shouldn't have to tell you, but get there early, its gonna fill up fast.
Don't forget, January 10th, Blackbird Promotions returns to Harry's Hideaway, this time swerving a different direction with "FURRY FURY"... YEP its blacklights, glow sticks, folks dressed up like animals and DJ OLDSKOOL spinning the tunes, to make this a PARTY EVERYONE WILL RAVE ABOUT!!!!!!!! And it benefits the fine folks at Deb's Dog's. More details next time....
Sadly in 2013 we lost several individuals, many we may have recognized their faces and voices right away as well as a few who were a part of our life, we just never really "knew who they were".
The world of radio lost one of the "good guys" when Kidd Kraddick suddenly passed away while at his charity event. The man who made all of our "noise" go away, Ray Dolby passed away in 2013 as well as "Carol" on the old Bob Newhart show and the voice of "Edna" on the Simpsons, Marcia Wallace.
How are we going to know what to do now that Dear Abby has left us? And no one could have predicted the death of famed psychic Sylvia Browne.
Two of baseball's greats Earl Weaver and Stan Musial rounded third and crossed home plate for the last time.
If you have been in a book store in the past 20 years, there is a chance you saw at least one, if not an entire section of books written by one the most successful authors of all time Tom Clancy, who sadly wrote his final chapter in 2013.
The music world said goodbye to some legends this year, Lou Reed, Ray Price, JJ Cale and George Duke. Sammy Johns, the man who gave us one of the most suggestive songs that ever was a hit, "Chevy Van" died in 2013 as did Phil Chevron of the Pogues.
Hollywood lost a legend in Peter O Toole. "Mr Drummond", Conrad Bain passed in 2013 and tragically at a way too young age, so did Paul Walker.
One of the true men of peace Nelson Mandela left us in 2013. And I never met two people who loved Lima more than they did and were Lima Ohio's biggest cheerleaders, Malcom McCoy and Joe Lepo both passed away this year.
I am sure I missed somebody and I am sorry and if I had room to list everyone I would, but I always try to touch on as many "worlds" as I can. If you remember them, that is special enough.
That's it for now. Have a safe New Years Eve, and I don't want to be a buzz kill, but get a DD...There are even free cab rides offered on New Years Eve, so take advantage of it. You can always to get your car later. It's just cheaper in so many ways. We want you all to enjoy every issue of The Entertainer for years to come. Remember, we can all support the local scene, just go to something somewhere. At least that's what I think.
If ya dig it do it
If ya really dig it
Do it twice
