That's What I Think 04-29-2014

Greetings again my friends from my, realized last night that you sleep through the morning if you go to bed in the early AM hours, corner of the world. Fairness warning, if I start to wander of in and out of thought, just give me a nudge, OK. I'll try not to take up as much space as last weeks offering but there is lots to talk about so lets get started.

Last weekend I had a chance to catch a one of the area's talent, starting with a performance at a very unlikely place. Myself and old friend Dave Johnson from Findlay's 106.3 The Fox first had the chance to see what I believed one of the area's first performance by Chris Michaels at Bigby Coffee.
. After spending time in the Nashville area, Chris came up here for his real job and brought with him loads of stage experience and some
tasty songwriting skills. If you get a chance to check him out do so.
Then after a little road trip if you will, we ended up in Ft Recovery at the Wendelin Tavern to see the regrouped and reloaded Country Mile. Country Mile always burned it up before, now they've just become hotter than ever. If that is possible. Looking forward to catching them again this summer. Still one of THE premier bands around.

Another busy weekend starting with a double dip of great rock at Lima's version of CBGB's, The Avalon. And sadly, in a few days, much like the legendary club from the Bowery, The Avalon will be no more. But as they have done things in the past, doing it on their terms. Friday night Scissorkick Rituals will get the rock rolling with the first chord struck at 9 pm. Then on Saturday Mangrenade, Shudder and Lemon Sky will be sending Pepper and company out in style. Stop up and say thanks for rockin Lima and help them rattle the glass tower & make 'em talk about the night The Avalon closed its doors.

Also in downtown Lima this weekend is "Mending Fences" a benefit being held at the They Say Club right next to Joey's. 134 N Main for you GPS users. Smedasaurus, The Radio Pilots and from Columbus, Here Comes Quincy will be entertaining the troops. Check out the Facebook event page for more details. Doors open at 9.

While we are on a downtown Lima roll, Saturday is the annual Free Comic Book Day at Alter Ego Comics. It starts at 10 with all sort of cool stuff and loads of happenings all tied in with the event throughout Downtown Lima. Find them on Facebook for the lowdown.

If you missed April's Blues Jam put on by the GACBS, you missed an amazing showcase of local talent. Kevin Ashba and "Bluesberry Jam" were the host band and they set the stage for the rest of the musicians. Minor Blues once again amazed and astonished. One of their members, Mason will be leaving but he was sent off with a standing O after his performance. I would be remiss if I did not mention 17 year old Ashley Bloom. For a 17 year old to sing with such soul and passion is very rare and one of those lightning in a bottle things. A very humble( almost embarrassed by the attention) and gifted young lady with a bright future. I have a copy of her CD, which I listened to as soon as I got home and I will be giving you my review in the very near future. Last Blues Jam of the season is last Sunday of May at the K of C on Cable Road. Don't miss it.

Just a quick congratulations to all involved in the Zombie Prom in Delphos last weekend. Yours truly was on the "other" side of our thriving metropolis but all chatter about it is positive. That does it for this time around. Remember we can all support the local music community, just go to something somewhere. At least that's what I think.

As always
If ya dig it do it
If ya really dig it
Do it twice
