Thanksgiving week is traditionally one of the busiest times of year for Walt Disney World Resort, when the four theme parks welcome massive holiday crowds. If you're going to be visiting Walt Disney World at all during the holiday week, be ready to get up early and stay up late - extended operating hours, particularly at the Magic Kingdom, have been announced.
From Sunday, November 24th to Saturday, November 30th, the Magic Kingdom's regular operating hours will from 8 AM to 1 AM.
In addition, on Sunday November 24th, Walt Disney World Resort hotel guests are eligible for Extra Magic Hours, during which they will use their resort room key or MagicBand to experience attractions from 1 AM to 3 AM, after the park has closed to the general public.
On Thursday, November 28th (Thanksgiving Day) the Magic Kingdom will offer a morning Extra Magic Hour for resort hotel guests, opening at 7 AM for WDW resort guests only.
If you're visiting Walt Disney World this week, make a plan and then be prepared to be flexible. Adding the "Park Hopper" option to your ticket, allowing you to visit more than one theme park in one day, is a great way to tour during crowded periods. Often, you can start your day at one park, take a break in the middle of the day, and then visit another park later in the day, and avoid the heaviest crowds. This is especially true of the Magic Kingdom, which is best first thing in the morning and late evening/night.
If you're taking advantage of Extra Magic Hours, consider visiting the park offering AM Extra Magic Hours first thing, but visiting the park offering PM Extra Magic Hours only very late in the evening, as they tend to get crowded with resort guests later and earlier in the day. You'll want to choose whichever one you're more comfortable with: if you're a morning person, you might not love the Magic Kingdom at two AM, but night owls are not going to love getting up at 5 AM for morning Extra Magic Hours, either.
For those staying past Thanksgiving, the Magic Kingdom will present Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party on Sunday, December 1st. This separately-ticketed event is held in the Magic Kingdom from 7 PM to midnight and features special holiday entertainment, fireworks, and parades.
