Thanksgiving gifts of nurture

Norwegian cookies

Whether you're entertaining guests or being entertained on Thanksgiving Day, stop in at the annual Julejentenes Christmas Bazaar at the Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church (Minnekirken) at 2614 N. Kedzie Ave. on Saturday, November 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to pick up Norwegian cookies and breads to wow your guests or your Thanksgiving hosts.  If sweets aren't your thing, crafts will also be available for purchase, or just go to enjoy a bowl of hearty pea soup and buy a raffle ticket.  The bazaar is a fundraiser for the last remaining Norwegian language church in Chicago.

Logan Square Farmers Market

Continue your Thanksgiving preparations on Sunday, November 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the newly minted Logan Square Indoor Winter Farmers Market in the lobby of the Congress Theater at 2135 N. Milwaukee Avenue. (The Indoor Winter Farmers Market continues through March with a few Sundays off for holidays, like the Sunday after Thanksgiving.) You might still find some root vegetables for your Thanksgiving feast, and you'll find many of the same vendors whose wares you enjoyed all summer long with produce put up and canned to last you through the winter. They make great hostess gifts too.

You can still enjoy lunch at the Farmers Market with prepared food vendors also still on hand.

And to especially ready you for your Thanksgiving, this Sunday a knife sharpener vendor will be present to help you perfect and show off your carving skills on Thanksgiving Day.
