Summer might be just beginning, but, for those "in the know" now is the time to begin researching as well as booking your 2013 Thanksgiving hotels in New York City. Why? Thanksgiving is the unofficial kick off to the Holiday season in New York, and, demand always exceeds supply even in this tough economy.
This year's (2013) Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will take place on Thursday, November 28th, and, the parade route will be as follows:
- The parade will begin at 77th Street and Central Park West, moving down Central Park West to Columbus Circle.
- The parade will then turn onto Central Park South and head south on 6th Avenue until hitting 34th Street and turning west.
- The parade will conclude in front of Macy's Herald Square.
Why is knowing the parade route important? For many, this decides their hotel of choice. Hotels directly along the 2013 Thanksgiving Parade route include:
- The Warwick New York Hotel, 65 West 54th Street at 6th Avenue. Rates begin at $1050 per night plus taxes and fees (based on double occupancy and 21 day advanced purchase and also based on a Wednesday, November 27th arrival and a Sunday, December 1st departure.)
- Hilton New York, 1335 Avenue of the Americas (6th Avenue between 53rd and 54th Streets) - Rates begin at $484 per night plus taxes and fees (based on double occupancy and advanced purchase and also based on a Wednesday, November 27th arrival and a Sunday, December1st departure.)
Of course, many more hotels that are not directly on the parade route are also available at this time. Generally speaking, hotels located in Midtown East will offer lower rates such as the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Metropolitan located at 51st Street and Lexington Avenue (and a very easy walk to the parade route) offer rates as low as $259 per night (based on double occupancy and advanced purchase and also based on a Wednesday, November 27th arrival and a Sunday, December 1st departure.)
The key to success is knowing that Thanksgiving is considered "high season" (meaning hotel rates are at their highest), and, booking early is extremely important. Be sure to research the hotel or hotels of your choice by reading reviews on websites such as TripAdvisor to help you make the best selection based on your price range and location and amenities desired.
