While the Occupy movement rages against the top 1%, let us not forget that, from a global perspective, the poorest among us are the upper class - and that, despite recent setbacks, we are free to raise these concerns.
While so many rage against immigrants, let us not forget that there is a reason they are willing to risk everything to come here and start a new life - and that our ancestors made the same choice.
While the recession continues and so many of us scale back our Thanksgiving feasts, let us take a moment to remember those to whom any one of our side dishes would be a blessing.
While so many brace to see family they have trouble tolerating, let us remember those who spend their days alone.
While many of us face sickness or hardship, let us not forget that God is good and has already given so much more than we deserve. Let us take this day and remember all the mercies and gifts He has given to us, from our smallest treat to His own Son.
And, most importantly, let us remember that God gives His gifts with the intention of seeing them shared. We do not take inventory of our blessings to feel good about ourselves, but to see all the things we have to offer to the lost and hurting around us. Happy Thanksgiving, and may God continue to bless you in the new year.
