Getting tennis rackets into the hands of kids is the first battle, but it's one that Wilson Tennis is looking to take part in.
Wilson is one of the biggest names in sports equipment, and it isn't by accident. They know that getting kids involved and using Wilson equipment at the grassroots level is key to growing the world of sports and getting kids active and fit.
Wilson Tennis has announced it will partner with a very forward-thinking organization in TGA Premier Youth Tennis (TGA) that will make Wilson the official equipment and apparel provider for TGA programs and providing funding to TGA’s 501c3 Foundation.
Wilson wants to put a tennis racquet in every student’s hand through TGA’s national school-based model. This includes providing “10 and Under Tennis” equipment and apparel for TGA, who is a National Partner of the USTA.
“The Partnership with TGA Premier Youth Tennis is a great fit for Wilson Racquet Sports and our shared vision to attract more youth participation,” said Jon Muir, general manager of Wilson Racquet Sports. “TGA’s pathway programs have proven to be successful in providing youth an entry into sports and the tennis industry.”
Wilson will also provide funds over the next three years to the 501c3 TGA Sports Foundation in an ongoing effort provide all youth access to the sport of tennis through school based programs and beyond.
In following what the USTA has been touting for years, TGA is on board to help under-resourced and special needs youth by making tennis accessible in all communities while transitioning students and families to local tennis facilities and USTA programming. It's true grassroots, in the trenches work.
Another plus for partnering with a company like Wilson, is that Wilson has a stable of players that can help promote the initiative.
“Wilson has long been known as the leader in the racquet sports industry, and together with our common mission to grow the sport, this is a partnership that will impact the long term growth of the tennis industry,” said Joshua Jacobs, co-founder and CEO of TGA Premier Youth Tennis. “We are already working with Wilson to develop opportunities for our franchises to grow tennis in the communities we serve.”
TGA and Wilson are all about getting youth involved in sports. TGA continues to introduce youth to tennis at elementary and middle schools, child care centers, and community-based organizations through a program that about more than just tennis. It's family oriented and it shows that tennis can be fun and cool sport.
The more kids that get involved in tennis, the better.
